The surgical interventions campaigns directed by CAAP Afrika are conducted by a team which acquired, thanks to its experience with the Monegasque Red Cross, a great expertise in prosthetic surgery of sickle-cell anaemic hip.
The sickle-cell anaemia is a genetic disease that can damage joints like hips or shoulders, altering functional abilities.
More than 200 hips have been operated by the same team at Niamey national hospital with clinical follow-up cares and bi-annual X-ray examinations.
All surgical interventions are preceded by several patients consultations. Moreover, the association takes in charge prescribed medicines, X-rays and ambulance transfers.
